Château Hauterive 2020

9,50

Deep and intense garnet colour, dark black reflection, brilliant and limpid. On the nose, a powerful and complex bouquet mixing black fruit, blackcurrant, kirsh cherry, redcurrant, liquorice and spices such as vanilla and cardamom on a toasted background. Some notes of undergrowth. Rich and dense on the palate, with a frank attack, a nice balance between the aromatic power and the melted vanilla wood, a complex mouth, a nice texture, supported by fine tannins. The wine is coated with vanilla and toasted notes that linger on the palate.

Average Yield: 33 hectoliters per hectare. Average age of vines: 40 years.

The autumn and winter of 2019 were marked by heavy rainfall in October and November, followed by exceptionally high temperatures starting in December. This climatic trend continued into early 2020, leading to an early start for the vine. April’s rains encouraged robust vegetative growth, and by early May, ideal conditions allowed for a homogeneous flowering. However, the second half of May saw significant mildew pressure due to alternating rain and intense heat. June brought rejuvenating rains and cooler temperatures, helping to balance the vine. The following summer was warm, without extreme heatwaves. Hydric stress appeared relatively late in 2020, allowing the grapes to ripen in optimal conditions. The late August rains, combined with high temperatures until mid-September, promoted the optimal maturation of tannins and anthocyanins. The late-ripening varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, particularly benefited from these ideal conditions. Their maturity progressed quickly, resulting in powerful, dense, and well-structured wines.

Mechanical harvesting method. Separate winemaking of grape varieties, in respective temperature control fermentation tanks. Alcoholic fermentation with pumping over and regular racking and returning in order to extract structuring material and color. The wine is aged for 12 months in oak barrels.
